Square Enix’s September 17 Tokyo Game Show trailer for Final Fantasy Resonance puts the Crystal conflict at the center of the game’s launch campaign. The publisher’s Japanese announcement calls it the final trailer and confirms WurtS’s “INSIDE” as its image song. The official English upload below is titled Tokyo Game Show Trailer.

Why the Earth Crystal Matters

The official English story page identifies Rain and Lasswell as knights sent to investigate the Earth Shrine. Veritas of the Dark defeats them and destroys its Crystal; they later find their kingdom under attack. Fina joins their pursuit as they set out to protect the remaining Crystals. Square Enix’s character profile identifies Veritas as a member of the Sworn Six of Paladia.

That sequence gives the campaign a practical shape. Rain begins with an investigation close to home, then has to leave because the threat extends beyond one shrine. The remaining Crystals give the party a reason to keep moving through the world, while the opening defeats establish an opponent they cannot simply overpower at the start.

The trailer’s story emphasis also helps separate two uses of familiar Final Fantasy characters. Rain, Lasswell and Fina are the campaign’s protagonists; Visions are equippable echoes of series characters that support the party in battle. A recognizable face appearing as a Vision does not mean that character has replaced a member of the central story trio.

What the TGS Announcement Adds

Beyond the music reveal, Square Enix’s TGS announcement distinguishes the show-floor demos from the downloadable demo. Attendees could select an opening scenario, a mid-game dungeon or a Colosseum challenge; the latter two were absent from the public demo. That is a useful limit when reading impressions from the event: two people may have sampled substantially different parts of the game.

“INSIDE” is confirmed as music accompanying the trailer. The announcement does not establish that every scene or encounter in the full game uses it.

Battle Systems Already Established Before This Trailer

The publisher’s Steam listing describes turn-based battles built around weaknesses, Stagger, extra turns and Resonance attacks, plus Visions for party customization. Those systems explain the battle footage’s context; they should not be presented as newly revealed just because they appear in this trailer.

For their practical use, see our Visions, Stagger and Espers beginner guide. Keeping the mechanics guide separate lets this article focus on the story stakes and the specific TGS announcement.

Release Dates and the Public Demo

The English upload lists October 22, 2026 for Switch 2, Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Steam. The Japanese announcement dates Steam October 23, while the Steam storefront checked for this update displays October 22. These are the dates in the respective regional sources; neither provides the exact unlock-time explanation, so check your own storefront’s timing before planning to play.

The free public demo runs through Chapter 1, with save data carrying into the full game. Our demo guide covers what to try before committing to the campaign.
