RuneScape Reignited is under review. In its October 6 developer statement, Jagex says it is re-evaluating the proposal after feedback from existing Veteran players. December 2, 2026 remains the last announced launch date; no delay or cancellation is announced in that statement.

October 8 update: the original FAQ now links to the reassessment. The rules below describe the October 3 proposal and must be read alongside that newer statement.

Reignited was proposed as a permanent new character type inside current RuneScape, available on PC and mobile, with a fresh economy and hiscores. Existing Veteran progression was to be retained. It is distinct from the separate MMO project called RS4.

What Jagex is reconsidering

Jagex apologized for making existing players feel sidelined. Its review covers Veteran progress and recognition, avoiding a hard community split, friction between character types and possible membership changes. These are considerations, not approved replacement mechanics.

Is the December 2 launch still happening?

The October 3 announcement and FAQ and original launch page still give December 2. That is the previously announced date for a plan now being reassessed, rather than a guarantee of unchanged rules. There is no new date to substitute.

When will players see the next proposal?

The October 6 statement promises proposals by the end of that week for player feedback. It does not promise final rules or a launch decision then. The official news feed checked for this update contains no later Reignited proposal.

Watch the original October 3 Reignited reveal

The 71-second trailer comes from RuneScape’s official channel. It presents the October 3 original proposal, before the reassessment; it does not establish which rules Jagex will ultimately release. Its December 2 date concerns Reignited, not RS4.

Original October 3 interaction plan — subject to reassessment

The original FAQ calls Reignited a character type, with new characters offered a choice between the Veteran and Reignited economies. It proposed retaining Veteran progress and preventing characters from switching types. The following matrix records that original plan; it is not a finalized post-reassessment ruleset.

ActivityOriginal October 3 rule — subject to review
Play on existing Veteran worldsBoth character types can join
Play on Reignited-only worldsReignited characters only
ChatBoth types can talk to one another
Join clans and homesteadsBoth types can belong together
Trade itemsOnly within the same character type
Use the Grand ExchangeSeparate markets, fixed by character type
Share a boss instanceOnly within the same character type

Under that original matrix, shared worlds did not mean shared markets or unrestricted group bossing. The FAQ also said future content would be developed for all character types. Jagex has not yet published a replacement matrix.

The original fresh hiscores proposal creates a new progression race. The announced Hall of Legends would commemorate qualifying world-first achievements with permanent character statues. That proposal does not establish a reset of existing Veteran achievements or items.

The original FAQ gives Reignited no scheduled end date and no predetermined economy merger. Those original intentions do not settle what happens after the review; considering changes is not confirmation that the economies will merge.

Original free-access offer and membership rule

The original offer is full Reignited access without Membership from December 2–12, 2026. It remains displayed on the launch page, but should be read as part of the original plan under review.

The original FAQ requires a separate membership, comparable to Ironman. Jagex is now exploring whether that arrangement can change; subscription sharing has not been approved. No exact offer start or cutoff hour is supplied in the checked announcements.

Original monetization proposal

The original Reignited page rules out Treasure Hunter and describes fresh progression with no paid progression. This is the original advertised model, not a newly approved outcome of the review.

The original FAQ allows cosmetic overrides through the marketplace while excluding Radiant Stars for Reignited characters. Membership was also part of that model. It does not establish that every optional purchase, including bonds, disappears.

The original FAQ also proposes prohibiting gold swapping into or out of Reignited, with fuller anti-cheat information to follow. The October 6 statement does not provide a replacement monetization or anti-cheat policy.

Adventure Guide, remastered quests and plugin rollout

The original December 2 update bundled the Adventure Guide and the first stage of the remastered player journey. The RuneFest roadmap describes the guide as optional, helping players find suitable activities from their first steps through the endgame. It preserves the choice to explore independently.

The early journey work covers environments, selected early quests and encounters, skill interactions and interface clutter. Further remaster stages, Parts II and III, are planned for 2027.

Plugin support has a separate rollout. The RS Plugin Beta launched on October 6, 2026, initially with Quest Helper, Menu Entry Swapper, Tilemarkers, Entity Hider and Job Gauges. Players can browse, install and manage available tools through the in-game RS Plugin Hub.

The beta announcement explicitly separates its release from the Reignited discussion. Its launch is not evidence that Reignited’s revised plan has been settled, and it does not promise arbitrary third-party plugins or a complete final December catalogue.

Reignited and RS4 are different projects

RS4Working title for a separate RuneScape MMO in early development, built in Unreal Engine; no specific release window

On its official RS4 page, Jagex says the new MMO is still a few years away and is intended to sit alongside RuneScape, Old School RuneScape and Dragonwilds. That wording does not establish a release year, engine version or platform list. Our separate RS4 explainer covers that project; the Reignited statement does not revise it.

The separate survival game also has a Dragonwilds Luminance update planned for December 2026. Its announcement gives a month, while December 2 is Reignited’s previously announced date under review; the two should not be treated as the same release.

What should existing players do now?

The checked announcements do not establish a wipe of existing characters. Use the next developer proposal before treating a second membership or a permanent economy split as settled. Revised proposals, feedback and final decisions are different steps.

The launch hour, fuller anti-cheat rules, finished Adventure Guide and remaster previews, and post-beta plugin catalogue also remain practical details to watch. For other game announcements and updates, browse Gaming.
