The Apothecary Diaries Movie: Global Theatrical Deal and Japan Date
Crunchyroll and Sony will distribute The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady's Treasure. Japan opens December 11; territory-by-territory international dates and ticketing remain unannounced.

Crunchyroll has acquired North American and international theatrical rights to The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady’s Treasure, excluding Asia but including India. Its October 8 announcement names Sony Pictures Entertainment as distribution partner. International dates and ticket information will follow; December 11, 2026 is Japan’s opening date, not a worldwide premiere.
| Question | Current answer |
|---|---|
| Japan cinema opening | December 11, 2026, listed by TOHO |
| International distribution | Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment |
| Announced rights territory | North America and worldwide excluding Asia, with India included |
| International cinema dates and ticketing | Not yet announced by territory |
| International opening dates | To be announced |
| Streaming or home-video date | Not established by the theatrical announcement |
Does international distribution mean every territory has a release date?
A rights acquisition is not a confirmed cinema booking. It establishes distribution rights in the named territories, but not which theaters will screen the film, when tickets go on sale or what subtitled and dubbed versions each territory will offer.
No exact international cinema dates or ticketing links were announced alongside this distribution deal. The stated rights also do not guarantee screenings in every country, city or theater; individual distributor and exhibitor announcements will establish those details.
Is December 11 the worldwide release?
No. TOHO’s official film lineup lists the Japanese feature 劇場版 薬屋のひとりごと 亡妃の秘宝 for Friday, December 11, 2026. Crunchyroll says international dates will be announced later. These are separate pieces of the release schedule.
The distributor uses The Late Lady’s Treasure as the English title. Earlier Red Reactions coverage used The Deceased Empress’ Treasure for the same Japanese film; this announcement does not introduce a second movie.
What is the film about?
Crunchyroll’s synopsis sends Maomao and Jinshi south to investigate a deceased concubine’s remarkably preserved remains and a mystery involving hidden treasure in a city on the water. That is the announced setup, without the mystery’s solution.
The feature is based on a concept from novelist Natsu Hyuuga, also credited as Hyuganatsu. Norihiro Naganuma directs at TOHO Animation STUDIO. A movie made for this franchise should not be described as a recap or a confirmed adaptation of a particular novel arc without supporting production information.
Do you need to finish Season 3 first?
The film is a separate theatrical story, not Season 3’s second cour. The TV season premiered October 2, with its second cour planned for April 2027. Our Season 3 release guide covers that schedule.
Those dates alone do not establish a mandatory viewing order or guarantee that the film is spoiler-free for a newcomer. Our novel, manga and adaptation guide explains the formats; this article will need official viewing context before giving a more specific prerequisite.
Tickets, streaming and trailer status
Watch for Crunchyroll, Sony and official local cinema announcements before buying tickets. International ticket links have not been announced in the verified materials, and a theatrical deal does not itself set a Crunchyroll streaming date, VOD launch or home-video edition.
The official Japanese trailer for the film, first shared in July 2026, is embedded above. It is footage from The Late Lady’s Treasure, not a Season 3 TV promotion or a newly released October international trailer. The October distribution announcement supplies no territory-specific international opening dates. Browse Anime or the release calendar for separately sourced schedules.
