Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO will open in Japan on January 15, 2027, followed by a February 2027 theatrical window in North America. Bandai Namco Filmworks announced the North American plans and three English dub leads at New York Comic Con on October 8. The film is a prequel to SEED FREEDOM, with Shinn Asuka at the center of its new teaser visual.

Two territories, two different release announcements

TerritoryAnnounced theatrical releaseDate precision
JapanJanuary 15, 2027Exact opening date
North AmericaFebruary 2027Month only; no specific day announced

The January opening comes from the official Japanese film site. February is the window in Bandai Namco Filmworks’ North American announcement; it is also the date printed on the English promotional artwork. Neither announcement establishes a simultaneous worldwide release. The cited sources do not give dates for other territories, a ticket-sale timetable or streaming plans.

The confirmed English dub leads

Bandai Namco names these three performers for the English-language version:

CharacterEnglish voice actor
Shinn AsukaMatthew Erickson
Kira YamatoMatt Hill
Athrun ZalaSam Vincent

That is the announced principal cast, rather than a complete English dub roster. The release also identifies Lunamaria Hawke, Agnes Giebenrath, Leonard Valway and Yzak Jule among the film’s characters, without naming their English performers.

Where ZERO fits in the SEED story

The official synopsis begins in C.E. 74, after the war and the collapse of Dullindal’s Destiny Plan. Cagalli is establishing a global peace-monitoring agency, while Shinn has yet to decide his own course. A mobile suit arrives from ZAFT at the agency’s temporary base on Onogoro Island; that night, unknown people steal the Strike Freedom Gundam. Recovering it and preventing the situation from escalating brings Shinn and his comrades back into battle.

Director Mitsuo Fukuda describes ZERO as connecting SEED DESTINY and SEED FREEDOM. Bandai Namco says its screenplay was written during SEED FREEDOM’s production by Chiaki Morosawa, Shigeru Morita and Fukuda. Its announced mobile suits include Strike Freedom, Infinite Justice and the GOUF Ignited Custom.

The teaser artwork places Shinn in the foreground, with Kira and Athrun behind him. It introduces the prequel’s focus without revealing who steals Strike Freedom or how that conflict ends.
