HBO Max is different: starting September 10, the film is included as part of an HBO Max subscription, with no separate purchase required. Warner Bros. Discovery is also releasing a full American Sign Language version of Supergirl on HBO Max the same day, September 10. HBO Linear Follows September 12

Two days after the HBO Max debut, Supergirl premieres on the HBO linear channel on Saturday, September 12, at 8:00 p.m. ET. That’s a separate date from the HBO Max streaming debut, not a typo or duplicate listing — subscribers without HBO Max access, or anyone tuning in the traditional way, get the film on linear specifically that Saturday night.

What “Global Streaming Debut” Means

Warner Bros. Discovery’s own wording is that Supergirl will make its “global streaming debut exclusively on HBO Max” on September 10. That confirms HBO Max as the film’s worldwide streaming home rather than a US-only rollout, but it doesn’t guarantee identical app availability, timing or regional distribution in every market — HBO Max itself isn’t available everywhere, and WBD’s announcement doesn’t spell out a country-by-country breakdown. Landing on HBO Max also doesn’t mean Supergirl’s theatrical run is being formally cut off; subscription streaming and any remaining limited theatrical showings aren’t mutually exclusive. The film wrapped its main box office run well below expectations, but Warner hasn’t tied the September 10 date to that performance, and neither should anyone reporting on it.
