LAIKA released Wildwood’s final trailer on September 16, alongside ticket sales for its October 23, 2026 US theatrical opening. Fathom Entertainment’s announcement links the same upload and identifies the film as LAIKA’s sixth stop-motion feature.

A Rescue Mission That Enters a Larger Conflict

The official synopsis follows Prue McKeel (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) after a murder of crows abducts her baby brother. With her classmate Curtis Mehlberg (Jacob Tremblay), she enters the Impassable Wilderness, an enchanted forest beyond Portland, Oregon.

The synopsis connects that personal rescue to a struggle over the forest’s future. Prue needs to bring her brother home, but she and Curtis encounter talking animals, bandits and powerful figures with their own interests. The announced stakes grow out of the rescue rather than a separate invitation to explore a magical world.

How the Official Map Organizes the Wilderness

The official film site’s exploration map labels North Wood, South Wood, the Bandit Camp, the Avian Principality and the Coyote Army. The Long Gap separates parts of the forest, with the Ancient’s Grove and Council Tree also marked.

Those labels provide geography for the fantasy setting. They do not describe a simple good-versus-evil division or identify which faction Prue can trust. Readers can recognize places and groups without turning their names or crests into predictions of the film’s alliances.

Stop-Motion, With a PG-13 Rating

Travis Knight directs, and Chris Butler writes the screenplay, adapting the novel by Colin Meloy and illustrator Carson Ellis. LAIKA describes the physical crafting and frame-by-frame animation of its characters and environments. That production method identifies how the film is made; animation alone does not establish an age range.

The official US site carries a PG-13 rating, citing strong fantasy violence and bloody images, thematic and suicide-related material, brief partial nudity and language. Viewers choosing a family outing have more useful guidance in that classification than in assuming every film from the studio fits the same audience.

Alongside Lee and Tremblay, the ensemble includes Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, Angela Bassett, Awkwafina and Richard E. Grant.

Wide Release and Special Presentations

Fathom confirms October 23 in US theaters, with 4DX, DBOX and Dolby Cinema at select locations. It also identifies the October 21 AFI FEST opening-night screening as the US premiere. A festival premiere and nationwide release are different opportunities to see the film; premium formats depend on the theater.

FilmNation handles international sales, but that credit does not make October 23 a confirmed date for every country. The checked announcements do not provide a streaming premiere.

Correction, October 1: The synopsis now follows the studio’s stated inciting event, the crows’ abduction, without assigning Alexandra responsibility that the checked synopsis does not establish.
