Hammer's Dracula Returns in 4K With Long-Missing Footage Restored
Hammer's 1958 Dracula returns to UK cinemas October 16 and home video October 26 in a 4K restoration that reinstates long-missing footage. Here's what the editions include.

Hammer’s Dracula (1958) is returning in a 4K restoration that reinstates footage believed missing for more than six decades. Hammer calls it the film’s most complete presentation to date. UK cinema screenings start October 16, 2026; Hammer’s home-video release is dated October 26.
The news is the recovered material as much as the resolution upgrade. Hammer says some of the reinstated footage had previously been associated with the film’s original Japanese theatrical release. This does not establish that every historical cut has been recovered or that one disc represents an exact, previously lost director’s cut.
What Was Restored?
Hammer and Silver Salt Restoration, in partnership with Warner Bros., worked from the best available original archival materials. The result restores long-missing footage to Terence Fisher’s film, which stars Christopher Lee as Dracula and Peter Cushing as Van Helsing. Hammer’s description is careful: this is its most complete presentation to date, not proof that every piece of censored or discarded material survives.
The film also circulated in different UK and US versions; in the United States it was released as Horror of Dracula. That history explains why Hammer’s new editions distinguish between several cuts instead of presenting one universal 1958 version.
Which Versions Are in the Collector’s Edition?
The limited seven-disc set includes five presentations: an uncensored UK version, the UK theatrical version, an uncensored US version under the Horror of Dracula title, the US theatrical version and an editor’s workprint. The workprint is a rough production version, not another finished theatrical cut.
Hammer lists two UHD discs and five Blu-rays, with UHD content duplicated on Blu-ray. Its product page also lists new 5.1 mixes for the main cuts alongside original mono audio, a 200-page book, a House of Hammer comic reprint, a poster and replica lobby cards. The simpler standard 4K and Blu-ray options should not be confused with all of the collector’s edition’s discs and physical extras.
When Can You See It?
Hammer’s screening page lists UK cinemas from October 16 and says US screening details will follow. There is no confirmed US theatrical date on that page. Hammer lists October 26 for the home-video release sold through its store; availability in other territories should be checked locally.
Hammer’s official 4K restoration trailer previews the new presentation. Its marketing language describes an uncensored film, but that should not be stretched into a claim that every historical frame was found.
What Else Is in Hammer’s Dracula Campaign?
Hammer has also announced a scriptbook based on a surviving early screenplay with Christopher Lee’s handwritten notes. Its new release of James Bernard’s score draws on surviving film and music/effects sources because the isolated session tapes did not survive complete. Hammer says roughly 20 minutes of music were extracted and cleaned up. These archival releases offer context around the film, while the restored feature remains the reason for its October return.
