Alex Gibney's Musk Trailer: What the Documentary and Release Plan Confirm
Bleecker Street's Musk trailer previews Alex Gibney's documentary about Elon Musk. It opens in select US theaters October 9 and nationwide October 16, 2026.

Alex Gibney’s Musk documentary opens in select Los Angeles and New York theaters October 9, 2026, followed by a nationwide US opening October 16, according to Bleecker Street’s film page. Its official trailer introduces the investigation; the release plan also includes special screenings with filmmaker and journalist discussions.
A Constructed Interview Is Part of the Film’s Method
In Associated Press reporting from Venice, Gibney explained that the documentary uses a CGI Musk avatar and voice syncing to simulate an interview using statements Musk made in real interviews. That sequence is a constructed presentation of earlier remarks, rather than a new interview with the filmmaker.
AP also identifies interviewees including Tesla co-founder Martin Eberhard, Justine Musk, Kara Swisher and Samantha Power. The combination of interviews, archival statements and a simulated encounter matters when assessing the argument: the source of a statement and the way it is presented are separate questions. A contributor’s claim remains that person’s account; a dramatic presentation does not independently verify it.
This explains the documentary’s reported method. It is not a review of the complete film or an assessment of how thoroughly the finished documentary supports each allegation.
Planning a Screening
AP describes Musk as nearly four hours long. Bleecker distinguishes screening starts from some Q&A times: its October 9 AMC Burbank listing starts at 1:30 p.m., with the discussion listed for 6 p.m. The Q&A time is therefore not necessarily the time to arrive for the film.
Check the individual cinema booking for runtime, start time and whether a discussion is included. The October 9 LA/NY engagement and October 16 nationwide opening describe different stages of the US rollout. Earlier special events on Bleecker’s page do not mean the general release starts everywhere that day.
