Sicario 3 reunites its original trio, with filming targeting early 2027, Deadline reports. No release date is announced.
Who is returning, and who is making it?
Deadline and TheWrap identify this package:
| Role | Current reported attachment |
|---|---|
| Returning stars | Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin |
| Director | Padraic McKinley, director of The Weight |
| Screenwriter | Steven Knight |
| Production companies | Black Label Media and Thunder Road |
| Filming target | Early 2027 |
Why Emily Blunt’s return matters
Blunt appeared in the 2015 original, directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Taylor Sheridan, as Lionsgate’s credits establish. She did not appear in the 2018 sequel. Sony’s Soldado synopsis follows Brolin’s Matt Graver and del Toro’s Alejandro in the cross-border drug war.
The reports do not explain how Blunt rejoins their story.
Is Taylor Sheridan writing the third film?
Knight writes; Sheridan’s broader role remains unspecified. McKinley and Knight are incorporating cast notes, Deadline reports. Sheridan wrote both previous films.
Distributor, release date and final title remain open
The package heads to market without an announced distributor or plot. Sicario: Capos is unconfirmed as the final title. Filming has not been confirmed underway.
