EAT-MAN The Over Order, a brand-new anime project based on Akihito Yoshitomi’s sci-fi manga EAT-MAN, was announced on September 10, 2026 — the franchise’s first new anime production in 28 years, since EAT-MAN ‘98 aired in late 1998. The production’s official release calls it a complete new anime production, while director Shunji Oga describes it as an original story; neither statement specifies its continuity relationship to the 1990s series.

Why “28 years” is accurate here

The original EAT-MAN TV anime aired January–March 1997, followed by the sequel series EAT-MAN ‘98 that October through December. The Over Order is the franchise’s third anime production overall, and its announcement — 2026 minus 1998 — genuinely lands 28 years after the last one aired. This isn’t a round-number approximation; the chronology checks out.

An original story, not a remake

Yoshitomi isn’t just licensing the property out — he’s credited with the original work, script, and original design concept for The Over Order, with Satoshi Hirayama adapting those designs for animation under director Shunji Oga at Studio CAB. That’s the clearest signal this is new material built by the creator himself rather than a retelling of the 1997–1998 story. Red Reactions isn’t assuming any specific continuity link between the older anime and this project — nothing in the announcement addresses that directly.

Masashi Ebara returns as Bolt Crank

Masashi Ebara, who voiced protagonist Bolt Crank in the original 1990s anime, is confirmed to reprise the role. Bolt is a mercenary “explorer” with the ability to consume ordinary objects — scrap metal, machinery, nearly anything — and reconstitute them as weapons and tools. The teaser trailer reportedly opens with a message referencing the Heisei era before showing Bolt picking up a screw, declaring he’s ready to work, and producing an enormous weapon from consumed metal — a direct callback to the character’s core hook for anyone unfamiliar with the original.

What’s still unknown

  • Exact format — whether this is a TV series, film, or another structure
  • Premiere date or year
  • International streaming platform, if any
  • Full cast beyond Bolt Crank
