PS5 QSSR: Supported Games, How to Use It, and QSSR vs PSSR
QSSR brings AI upscaling to standard PS5. See Sony-confirmed games, how to find their graphics options and how QSSR differs from PS5 Pro PSSR.

QSSR is Quick Spectral Super Resolution, Sony’s AI upscaling option for standard PS5. You do not need PS5 Pro. Sony confirmed Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei support through October 1, 2026 game patches. Install the relevant game update and check that game’s graphics settings; Sony’s announcement does not document a console-wide switch. PS5 Pro uses the separate PSSR tier.
What is QSSR?
Quick Spectral Super Resolution comes from Sony and AMD’s Project Amethyst collaboration. Sony describes a streamlined neural network and implementation tuned for PS5, targeting improved detail and image stability.
Upscaling reconstructs the displayed image from the game’s rendering input. Sony’s PSSR explanation describes AI analysis at pixel level. A reconstructed output should therefore not be confused with a game rendering every pixel at the display’s native resolution.
QSSR vs PSSR: do you need PS5 Pro?
For these QSSR implementations, no. Sony positions QSSR for standard PS5 and retains PSSR as its higher-quality PS5 Pro tier.
| Upscaler | Platform | Evidence available here |
|---|---|---|
| QSSR | Standard PS5, in supported games | Sony’s performance-tier announcement and developer claims |
| PSSR | PS5 Pro, in supported games | Sony’s higher-quality tier description; no controlled comparison with QSSR |
The shared research background does not establish identical output. Sony’s February PSSR update describes changes to both its neural network and reconstruction algorithm; the October announcement describes another implementation suited to different hardware. Neither announcement supplies a controlled QSSR-versus-PSSR benchmark from which to calculate a performance gap.
Verified QSSR games on standard PS5
Sony confirms these launch implementations in its October 1 announcement. This is the verified list here as of October 8; it is not a claim that every PS5 game supports QSSR.
| Game | Standard PS5 support evidence | Where to check |
|---|---|---|
| Marvel’s Wolverine | Sony announcement: October 1 game patch | Latest game update and in-game graphics settings |
| Ghost of Yōtei | Sony announcement: October 1 game patch | Latest game update and in-game graphics settings |
How to use QSSR on PS5
- Check that the game supports it. Start with the Sony-confirmed titles above, then consult the game’s official update notes.
- Install the relevant game update. QSSR support arrives through game patches; a console update alone does not add it to your whole library.
- Check the game’s graphics or display settings. Sony says the patches add an extra graphics option, but does not supply an exact menu path or option label. Consult the game’s own instructions before choosing a mode.
- Compare the available modes for your setup. Do not assume the same settings or performance tradeoffs across different games.
These steps describe the confirmed delivery model, not a verified walkthrough of each game’s menus.
What do the developers claim?
Insomniac’s Mike Fitzgerald describes clearer, more stable imagery in Wolverine’s Madripoor and Shinjuku. Sucker Punch’s Jasmin Patry highlights fine detail and temporal stability in Yōtei. These are developer statements, not Red Reactions test results.

Will other games get QSSR?
No: QSSR is not automatically available in every PS5 game. Sony plans to offer it broadly to developers, but each game’s implementation needs confirmation. Developer access to the library does not patch existing games automatically. Check the game’s official update notes before assuming support.
Does QSSR boost FPS?
The October announcement describes improved image detail and stability; it does not give a measured FPS increase for either game. An upscaler reconstructs an image from a rendering input, but that alone cannot establish a particular frame-rate gain. Red Reactions has not performed a QSSR benchmark or a controlled QSSR-versus-PSSR comparison.
